“Now Ezra had dedicated himself to the study of the law of the Lord, to its observance, and to its statutes and judgements in Israel.”  – Ezra 7:10
Ezra was truly a man after God’s own heart. He prepared himself for service to the Lord through study, observation and devotion. Repeatedly the scriptures say the words, “The good hand of his God was upon him” (7:8).  He was devoted to his faith and to teaching others about that faith. History tells us that Ezra was primarily a scribe who recorded the events that lead to Israel’s return. He demonstrated that a simple scribe could become something more. He is one of the greatest biblical teachers of his time and by doing so revealed the path God had laid before his people to follow.  Today, take a few moments to think about your life and ask yourself, “What can I do to become a devoted follower of God like Ezra was?”  – Commentary by Matthew Elliott
