Tuesday Devotional 9/22/2015

Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give them some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it. – Revelations 2:17



The New Name

Revelation is a book of prophecy; it is also the last book in the Bible.  The message it bears is one of warning and one of encouragement. This scripture is believed to be the latter.  It reminds us that the battle can be won and that the believer will be rewarded when that victory comes.  The words ‘hidden manna’ refer to the spiritual nourishment the faithful will receive on that final day. This nourishment will transform the believer into something completely new. In this instance, each believer will receive a new name, a name so special only they and the LORD will know what it is. Today, embrace the idea of this new name and strive with everything you are to embrace what God has for you.  – Commentary by Matthew Elliott
